The Grey Wolf, or Okami, may have become extinct in Japan in the early 20th century, but its presence throughout thousands of years has profoundly impacted Japanese culture. Both feared and revered, the Japanese Grey Wolf was often seen as a servant of the mountain deity, Yama no Kami, frequently featuring in local folklore and mythology.
This sword pays homage to the legendary Japanese Okami, boasting a swift and light wakizashi blade that emulates the predator’s speed, agility, and ferocity.
Ryujin is renowned for the quality and affordability of their T10 tool steel blades, and this model is no different. The blade is differentially hardened, displaying a genuine hamon temper line, and is exceptionally light at 1.8lbs, with a balance point merely 2.5 inches from the tsuba, ensuring remarkable speed and maneuverability.
The wolf motif adorns the fittings, from the blue cotton ito over authentic rayskin wrap to the wolf-themed iron tsuba, accented with touches of real gold plating to emphasize the wolf’s yellow eyes and a silver-inlaid moon, endowing the sword with a wild and fierce aesthetic.
